81 Victoria Street Administration Building, Function Room 6.1 Singapore, 188065 SingaporeDescription
The 2019 Annual Wee Kim Wee-Soka International Seminar on Global Peace and Understanding will bring together artists, art curators, film makers, story-tellers, heritage conservationists, cultural innovators, and social scientists to address the question of how culture is produced and how we in turn are shaped by our cultures.
Cross-cultural dialogue and collaborations become more likely when we understand that all of us operate in a reflexive relationship with the cultures we imbibe and co-constitute. In this year’s seminar, our line-up of speakers will examine how individuals, institutions and communities co-produce art, performances, lifestyles, beliefs and values and in so doing collectively manufacture culture; and conversely, how these productions also make and shape us.
Organised by Singapore Management University’s Wee Kim Wee Centre and supported by the Singapore Soka Association, the seminar series addresses various challenges and issues facing humanity today, with the aim of working towards the creation of a deeper understanding of peace. This will be the fourth Seminar since its inaugural session held in 2016.
We look forward to your kind support for the event.
